Northern Pacific Regional Tournament La Grande, OR May 6-9, 2010 USU is headed to La Grande, OR this week to compete in the Northern Pacific Regional Tournament. The top two teams from each NorPac Division will compete for the conference championship and the right to move on to the NCBA World Series. USU opens play against the NorPac East Division Champions, Western Washington on Thursday May 6th at 2PM. The early game on Thursday will feature NorPac West Divison Champions Weber St against NorPac East Division #2 University of Oregon. These same four teams met in the region tournament two years ago with Oregon winning it all. Last year Weber St won the tournament and this year is currently ranked the #4 team in the nation. The weather forecast for La Grande, OR on Thursday calls for mostly cloudy skies and a high of 54°. Friday\'s forecast calls for mostly cloudy with a high of 60°. Eudy Sanchez\'s effort helps keep USU\'s chances alive for a first ever NoPac title. Sanchez was 6 for 10 with one double, two homeruns, one walk, 6 RBI\'s, and scoring five runs.
Gavin Johnson had a great weekend at the plate against ISU going 6 for 8. Gavin had 3 doubles, one homerun, three walks, 7 RBI\'s, and scored 4 runs.
Jesse Kunz started game one against Idaho State and pitched a complete game and them came on in relief in game two and got the victory in both games. In all, Kunz pitched 8 innings, recorded 2 wins, while only giving up 1 earned run and 7 hits. Kunz also struck out 10 batters.
